I just want to say, for the record, that when The Wife decided to have a big cleaning party with the kids back in March, I warned her that she was just making a clean spot for the mess to settle. Sure enough, she got stressed over everything being coated in plaster and drywall dust. It doesn't matter how many steps you take to contain the stuff, it gets out and makes a mess. You have to accept going in that everything needs to be scrubbed after you're past the mess-making stage.
We're just getting past the mess-making stage. As I finished making a mess in the bathroom, the electrician started cutting holes for expanded switch boxes and such. You know, for all the work that we were going to have him do before we found out the sellers took a piss on the contract. The finishing touches are going in there, with the first ceiling fan installed last night.
As we move along we discover more and more that the house was extremely well constructed. Floors level and square. Studs where there are supposed to be studs. That sort of thing. The only corner that seems to have been cut is the wiring.
I finished the bathroom floor yesterday morning. I could have finished it Saturday night but there was some cutting left to do. Being the new neighbor I didn't want to ruffle any feathers by sawing in the garage too late. I finished the last row and caulked the edges with enough time to throw in the new vanity. Again, floors nice and level. I just dropped it in place and secured it. The new faucet is on the vanity top, which I'll put on tonight. It's a bit too heavy to be doing alone. After that we're a toilet installation and a bit of caulking away from a finished bathroom.
After that we're a bit of trim away from a finished kitchen, and then two unpainted bedrooms away from everything we planned to do being done. I am going to do some work in the downstairs bathroom, but that can wait.
Broke but not homeless isn't so bad.
